Additional Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder Information

The HD-PVR from Hauppauge is the world's first High-Definition video recorder for making real-time H.264 compressed recordings at resolutions up to 1080i. HD-PVR records component video from cable TV and satellite set top boxes, with a built-in IR blaster to automatically change TV channels for scheduled recordings. Audio is recorded using AAC or Dolby Digital. The recording format is AVCHD, which can be used to burn Blu-ray DVD disks. Two hours of HD recordings, recorded at 5 Mbist/sec, can be burnt onto a standard 4.7 GB DVD-R or DVD-RW disk for playback on a Blu-ray DVD player. The HD PVR's amazing recording quality allows personal archival recordings of your favorite high definition TV programs from any component video HD set top box. The HD PVR also has standard definition composite and S-Video inputs so you can record your old home video tapes into an AVHCD format for creating Blu-ray recordings. Other features include recording high definition video at up to 1080i resolution, 720P or VGA/D1. Includes HD software video player so you can playback recordings to your PC screen. NTSC, PAL, and SECAm support. IR receiver for remote control which is included. Works with Windows XP and Vista.

What Customers Say About Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder:

Quality is very good and the file can be edited and burned on DVD or AVCHD disk using regular DVD media. Got my 1212 yesterday and everything is working just fine. I use it to dump recorded programs from my Directv HD-DVR to my PC. Digital audio input works and there is no lipsync problems.I can't give it 5 star just because the included software is very poor and that's why I use Sony Vegas Pro to edit the files. The AVCHD disks can be played on PS3 or any other Bluray player that handles AVCHD.

I was even able to use my netbook, however I wasn't able to playback Hi Def until I got it over to my desktop PC. This product was very easy to setup and worked just the way I needed it too. I was recording 720P game footage with ease. The loop though prevents any latency at all while it records making it easy to see and watch what you were capturing which saves money on having to get a strong PC to play 1:1.My only problem is I can't use my PC monitor since the HD DVR only supports Component outputs for HD. But its hardly a problem for most and i'm sure if I look I'll be able to find a cable to suit my needs.

received mine 3 days ago and after 3 days of testing here is my findsThe good : The HD capture is flawless crystal clear video when you record with highest bit rate 13.5 average and 20.5mpbs at peaks (I ended up with 15-16mbps average and never saw it higher than 17) also pretty much any pc can record HD videos with it because recording happens on the hd pvr not the PC,audio is in sync too, some people had problems though so download latest driver and update the software and you should have no problems (If you had problems after doing that it means your pc hardware cant playback HD videos very well so it drop frames/audio)The Bad : The software to record videos with it is perfect for recording but it have few annoying stuff, you can not capture and view in full screen, you can not change brightness/color/sharpness/etc before you record the option is there but they do not work, also there is no mute button so if your HD PVR is on and you want to use your pc you have to mute your whole pc because there is no mute button for the software,Some notes : The Component cable that comes along with it is so small so does the power supply cable and even the usb cable. everything is about 1 meter long so yeah. you will end up having your HD PVR+pc+hdtv all near each other or you need to buy new cables >.>Overall i'm happy with the device and the recording quality is better than the youtube HD samples by a mile and its super smooth (I record 1280x720p60) with 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio

I know for a fact that I'm installing it correctly, as I've watched several videos on how to do the exact same set up.Figuring I was shipped a defective unit, I had to call customer support, which means waking up even earlier for work since I live on the west coast and they're in NY, but that didn't bother me. I tried almost everything humanly possible (Toning down the video on the 360 to 1080i, then to 720p, Replugging in wires, turning the unit off and on, switching wires, plugging in different wires) short of buying brand new component cables and switching entire TV units. Received my HD PVR unit in the mail yesterday, I connected it to my Xbox 360 unit and the unit failed to loop the video onto the TV. What did bother me was the tech support person I was in contact with, who was exasperated by me just asking him to repeat the shipping address. It also failed to loop the signal onto my nearby laptop, which was the only computer I could hook it to since the product ships with an insanely short USB cable, the Component cables are even worse. Installed the included software and set it up exactly how the Hauppauge manual suggests to no avail. Not to mention that I'm supposed to mail this product now to them, not only paying for shipping and tracking costs for a $200 paperweight that didn't work, but I also have to wait for them to 'test' the unit out, as if I just like to spend money on products that are perfectly fine just to send it to them on my dime so they can see if I'm lying or not. I'm still weighing the pros and cons of shipping it to New York on my flippin' dollar or just sending this junk back to Amazon, but from my experience it would be VERY hard to recommend this product and anything from Hauppauge to anyone.

Both signals are the same for watching late night in bed. This device with a little creativity is nothing short of the most powerful piece of stereo gear on the planet. I take both the cable box and AppleTV's 5 RCA plugs and and put them into an IR controlled switchbox. The output of this HDMI selector goes to an HDMI spitter that feeds the main 55" DTV in the living room AND a smaller HDTV in the bedroom. Bite the bullet because BluRay will become the only DVD player in a few years time. The signal that is "hot" (selected input device) then goes to the Hauppauge DVR.

Anyway, the point being you can now record Pay Per View movies without encryption for you personal enjoyment on your schedule because the Hauppauge device lets you burn the image to a regular DVD disc for safe keeping and playback on demand. I use a MacBook Pro at the living room's HDTV to connect to the Hauppage DVR and run "EyeTV" software (which will control the DVR better than their own software). (Wireless IR connects the identical same Universal Remote Controllers). The DVI output of the Mac with an optical audio cable goes to a DVI/Audio to HDMI converter. This then goes into a 1 of 4 HDMI selector (the other HDMI inputs are BluRay, Cable, AppleTV, Computer and Gaming Device. A BluRay player is required to do this.
